What is EFT?

Picture
EFT (the Emotional Freedom Techniques)
are a series of astoundingly fast and easy
processes which can help just about
anyone to achieve genuine freedom from
the emotions that have created problems
in their lives. These techniques have been
described by some as one of the most
important breakthroughs in the area of
psychology in this century. They have
been used successfully with millions of
people with a broad range of difficulties.

EFT can dramatically relieve emotional
disturbances along with many physical
symptoms. It often works in minutes, its
results are usually long lasting, and side
effects are almost always positive. EFT is
versatile and has been used confidently
by thousands of therapists and many
more individuals with success even on
the most difficult cases, by relieving the
underlying imbalances in the energy
system.

The Origins of EFT
by EFT Developer
Gary Craig

Picture
"In 1991, I had the opportunity to study a
meridian-based healing system under the
tutelage of Dr. Roger Callahan. By 1995,
I transformed and simplified those
remarkable procedures into a form that
just about anyone can use.

Problems EFT
can Help With

Most energetic imbalances may be partially or completely relieved within a short time using this process. Others may be relieved through repetition of the process. Some examples of energetic patterns that have been successfully cleared using EFT:
  •  Fears related to performance like public speaking, concentration, sports, etc.
  •  Phobias like the fear of heights, driving...
  •  Emotional trauma
  •  Disturbing emotions eg depression, anger
  • Addictive patterns (eating, smoking etc)
  •  Insomnia
  • Emotions related to health conditions
  • Performance - Artistic, Sports, Academic, Business, Social...
As Gary says, "Try it on Everything, you might just be surprised!"
Some are understandably sceptical of
the validity of these processes. Such
doubts always accompany new
breakthroughs and innovations. But the
proof is in the dramatic results, and, not
surprisingly, many therapists are drawn
to the speed and effectiveness of EFT.

EFT is simple, relatively painless, quick
and can be self-administered. Further,
it can provide relief for an extraordinary
range of problems. After years of
developing these techniques, my jaw still
drops at the many “one minute wonders”
people experience, sometimes eliminating
what were severe problems that had been
around for decades. But even when the
cases are more complex, it often takes only
a few sessions for the client to gain relief.

EFT ... addresses the whole energy system.
They help you to transcend old paradigms
and stubborn problems. The processes are
designed to bring you to wholeness, often
in more dramatic and effective ways than
you might imagine possible."

Understanding
How EFT Works

Picture
Understanding how emotional healing with
EFT works may require an open mind for
many people. The effectiveness of EFT only
makes sense if it is related to the human
energy system. Fortunately, you don't have
to believe any of this to receive the positive
benefits of using these techniques.

In addition to having a physical body which
is fuelled by food, we humans also run on an
intricate energy system which is fuelled by
electrical impulses that run through the body.
This energy system holds the key to many
of the disturbances we experience in our
daily lives.

When it is out of balance, our emotional life
could be compared to a car that is in
desperate need of a tune up. The result may
take the form of any type of emotional
disturbance including phobias, anger,
depression, grief, guilt, anxiety, and a full
range of fears, to name a few. There may also
be physical symptoms like pain, headaches,
asthma and tension that are related to the
emotions. EFT provides relief from the
majority of these disturbances.

EFT, A Revolutionary
New Paradigm in Healing

The tapping serves to release the blockages
that are created when a person thinks about
or becomes involved in an emotionally
disturbing circumstance.

EFT was based on a revolutionary new
discovery that violates most of the beliefs
within conventional psychology. It contends
that the cause of all negative emotions is a
disruption in the body's energy system.
With remarkable consistency, EFT relieves
symptoms by an unusual (but scientific)
routine of tapping with the fingertips on a
short series of points on the body that
correspond to acupuncture points on the
energy meridians. It is proposed that where
there is an imbalance, there is a corresponding
blockage in the flow of energy through the
meridian system.
When this blockage is released, the emotions
come into balance. Once balanced, the person
cannot get upset about the circumstance no
matter how hard they try. The memory remains
but the charge is gone.

Typically, the result is lasting and the person's
awareness usually changes in a positive way as
a natural result of the healing.

Over time other theories have been proposed
for the mechanism for EFT's success, and as yet
none have been proven as the essential
mechanism. What they do agree on is that EFT
is highly effective and appears to draw on
multiple mechanisms.

Is EFT Just Placebo
or Distraction?

The placebo effects require some belief in the
process and this is rarely the case for newcomers
to EFT. You don't have to believe tapping will work
to experience it's many benefits. thus it works just
as well on babies and animals as it does on adults.

Although EFT may appear to be distracting, it will
not work if the client is, in fact, distracted. That is
why the client continually repeats a phrase which
"tunes in" to the problem while tapping.
Many people attempt to distract themselves from
distress and pain using addictive behaviours like
binging or smoking without every overcoming their
underlying problem. That's part of the reason why
they have to continue these behaviours - because
the problem is still there. With EFT once you have
done the tapping the problem is no longer there
and you can move on.

Scientific Validation
of EFT

EFT's foundation comes from a blend of Acupuncture
and Mind-Body Medicine, both of which have a strong
body of scientific studies supporting them, and can be
discovered with a simple Google search. EFT has itself
been the subject of numerous studies published in
prestigious scientific journals. These studies are
summarized and explained in depth by Dr. David
Feinstein in the downloadable document below.
